As I prepare for the NADGT tournament in late October I plan on playing in several local tournaments to hopefully get myself up to a decent level of tournament readiness. The main thing of course being mentally prepared. That collapse at this year’s Glass Blown Open is going to haunt me for a long time. lol..

So I decided to play in a tournament today. This tournament was held at the same course I played at to qualify for the NADGT tournament so I was familiar with the layout. I was a bit disappointed in turnout because there were no other old dudes, so I ended up playing solo in my division. Hey the good news is, it was an easy win! 🙂 lol…

So with no pressure to win out of the way, I could just focus on my game and perhaps try to shoot a round over my current rating. The main reason I am even adding this blog is to document that this round maybe could have been my highest rated round…. ever…. in disc golf.

The best score of the day from ALL of the players was -7 and that was rated at 983.

I was – 4 after the first 5 holes! Yah… I was playing exceptionally well. I’m really glad I played this tournament because it showed me how much my nerves are still present. After I shot those 4 birdies in a row I was well on my way to one of my best rounds I’ve played in disc golf. The problem was… the next hole was the same hole that I took a double bogie in BOTH rounds at the last tournament I played there, just less than 2 weeks earlier.

As I’m walking to the next tee I feel my adrenaline start to rush, I start taking deep slow breaths to try to calm down. My plan is just to throw the disc casually, nothing crazy, it’s a par 4, just play old man disc golf and take the par and move on! I throw the disc about 90ft to the right on a shank and hit the trees, my disc rolls down an incline and I just can’t believe I did it…. again. I end up taking another double bogie on this frickin hole and I’m not in a good head space.

But I manage to calm down a bit, make a few decent drives and proceed to par the next 9 holes. Reality has set in that this won’t even be close to my best round ever now, but I still have a chance to make it one of my best rounds of the year!

The final 3 holes I bogie, birdie, bogie and end up shooting just 16 points above my rating. What is really disappointing is I missed several putts again… from only 10-15 ft and I missed the final putt of the day on hole 18 from just 8ft out! I continue to miss these short putts which really hurts my chances of winning or shooting a high rated round. Putting continues to be the worst part of my game. ugh…

So anyway, it was probably the best start of any round of disc golf I’ve had so it was worth documenting. Still… it was useful to witness the nerves back in action which tells me I need to massively work on that the next 2 months before the national tournament. But what could…have…been. lol…

They also had a MEGA CTP which is an extra (not in the round) hole where anyone who wants to enter can pay 5.00 and throw one shot. The closest to the basket wins. I won that as well so it turned out to be a fun day! 🙂

Health Update: As I write this I’ve been dealing with pretty much 24/7 heart arrythmia the past few weeks. I purchased some new supplements. One that I was taking several years ago and stopped (D-Ribose Powder) and a new one I’ve never taken before (L-Carntine). I’ve been taking these 2 new supplements along with my other daily supplements for 2 days now and (knock on wood!) the heart arrythmia have almost completely stopped. I’m glad because I was getting a bit concerned. I expect daily heart arrythmias, but to have them 24/7 for almost 3 weeks, yikes.. that was getting scary and was something I have never experienced before. I’m also just about convinced I may have to stop eating just one meal a day. (internment fasting) I think since my hernia meshes were put in, I just can’t put that much food in my stomach anymore at one time because it might be messing with the vagus nerve which can make any heart arrythmias worse. One side affect of being a former morbidly obese person is, you still have that massive over stretched stomach which can hold a lot of food. lol.. So in any event, it’s 2 smaller meals a day now moving forward. Let’s see how that works out long term.

For anyone interested, here is the page where I first read about these supplements years ago. It’s a good page about PVCs, PACs, AFib, etc.
