Just some quick venting of what happened on 3/29/2025. yah… I was very angry over this. The nice thing about having your own blog is, you can vent publicly about anything and not be concerned if 1 person or 1000 people read it. 🙂 And with that said… time to vent…
So I show up to play in one of the big disc golf tournaments I’m playing in this year. I’ve had a history of weird things happening before a tournament. Warming up too long and playing very bad, forgetting equipment, throwing too many discs and losing one right before it starts, etc. I’ve even had 3 putters stolen from me right before a tournament starts. Losing a disc right before a tournament starts is the worst. It makes this old man….boil. lol..
I’ve finally found the sweet spot for me when it comes to warming up right before a tournament starts. We’re talking maybe 15-20min at the most. So I do a few warm up throws, do some putting, and I’m good to go. This has worked out well the past few tournaments. So I throw a few drives, focus on about 10 minutes of putting and it’s off to the 1st hole of the tournament!
I get to the first hole, with about 20 mins to start. The player meeting starts in about 10 minutes. I notice the wind is fairly strong so I decide to throw 3 discs on my starting hole to fine tune what disc I’m about to use on hole #1. There’s several players in the fairway collecting their discs, but my throws are no where close to them. I see where all 3 discs land, I grab my gear and I walk over to collect my discs.
Immediately I see 2 out of the 3, the 3rd one I can’t see is the one I need the most in this tournament. Yep… my most important disc cannot be found. Certainly this isn’t going to happen again is it? I mean…hole #1 is just basically a field with a couple of trees. There is no way this disc cannot be found. Again.. I see people picking up discs. I’m now concerned I can’t find my disc, but again.. no way this is going to happen again right? I yell to one guy picking up several discs.. “hey..did you pick up my orange disc?” He responds no. So now I’m getting a bit.. yah.. pissed off. The player meeting is on it’s way and about 100 players are all looking at me at hole #1 scrambling around to find a disc. It’s time to tee off, and I still can’t find the disc. I’m way passed pissed off, because this means someone intentionally picked up my disc and did not turn it in, they frickin kept it. 10 minutes before tee off time someone picks up my disc.
I’m so pissed off I can’t even play so I have to bow out of the tournament. I have a very strong adrenaline response to certain situations and this was unfortunately one of them so there was no way I could play. There was about a half a dozen guys walking around and one of them picked up my disc. Either by accident or on purpose. Either way once they put the disc into their bag they knew it was not their disc. Then they sat back and watched me look like an ass walking around looking for my disc right before the tournament starts. yah… I’d love to find out who did this.
So lesson learned… with 2 huge tournaments coming up, both of them I have to travel out of Texas, I will be taking much stronger precautions to make sure this never happens again. Just thinking about this makes my blood boil. So stupid… right? I mean could I have continued to play the tournament? Probably… but it would have taken me several holes to get this out of my mind, and by that point I’m sure my scores would have reflected the negativity I was feeling.
The disc was never returned to the tournament’s lost and found, so that solidifies the point that someone intentionally picked up my disc and kept it, 10 minutes before the tournament started. Whoever did this, if it was intentional to fk with me, yah… it worked. I mean… let’s keep this real… on one hand it’s funny as hell and you simply have to laugh right? lol.. But wow… for this crazy old man.. it was like.. “you gotta be fking kidding me…again?” lol.. jeesh…
