So I’m leaving for my trip to Austin for the 2025 NADGT North American Disc Golf Championships and I thought I’d brain dump a bit before I leave.
This is the biggest tournament I’ve been in since I started playing disc golf about 12 years ago.
I honestly feel this tournament HAS to be a deciding point for how I proceed in 2026 with disc golf. If I can control my mental anxiety, putting yips, bs, etc, and at least play half way decent, it’s a huge win for me. I’m not going to this tournament thinking I can win. I just want to chill tf out and play a relaxed, comfortable game and let the chips fall where they may.
The wife is coming with me, we’re turning this trip into a full fledged vacation. So that’s also a huge win. We’re going to be checking out what Austin has to offer, I’ll be doing some fishing a couple of nights trying to catch those huge Carp & Buffalo that are in Lady Bird Lake. 🙂
However…. if I simply can’t get my nerves, mental game, etc, together, I am 100% done with bigger tournaments. I’ll just play casual rounds and maybe a few local events. This roller coaster bs has gone on long enough. jeesh…..
Leading up to this event I’ve played in 3 smaller local events and I’m happy to report even though I didn’t play great, I played at a level I can be happy with. I still made several stupid mistakes from not slowing down before I throw or putt. I mean… missing putts from 5-8ft out is just…. stupid. wow… I just need to slow down sometimes, take a breath, before proceeding.
So, let’s see what happens at this tournament. My next post will be a summary of this disc golf vacation extravaganza.
