Old Digital Music Studio

In the early 2000s I wanted to start messing around with music again. I’ve always been banging on my drums, but it was a very long time since I actually sat down and played on a midi keyboard and tried to make some music. I wasn’t in a band at the time, I had no one to play actual instruments for me. I researched the idea of having all of the instruments digital and then I could play each instrument on a midi keyboard and record them into my digital audio work station.

I ended up using “Cakewalk” as my DAW and “Gigastudio” as my digital sampler. Gigastudio was state of the art for it’s time and allowed you to play pretty much any real word instrument on a midi keyboard. Granted, it wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t 100% realistic, especially in regards to electronic guitar reproduction. But…it came close. lol..

I wrote a bunch of music demos, wrote several songs, etc. But I lost motivation to finish the songs due to I wasn’t satisfied with the overall quality of the digital instruments, especially the reproduction of electronic guitars. Sure I could have hired real musicians, went to a real studio… nah.. where’s the fun in that? lol..

Here’s the intro from a cover of “Don’t Fear The Reaper” I was working on back in 2003. I played every instrument on a midi keyboard. lol.. Listening to it now, it doesn’t sound too bad actually. lol.. Digital guitars have come a long way since then. The digital guitars I’ll be using in my new music coming out hopefully later this year (2024) are far superior, especially when it comes to strumming and playing rhythm. The lead guitar in this demo doesn’t sound half bad. 😉
